Background

New Zealand is poised to lead the English-speaking world in the fast-developing electric vehicle (EV) conversion industry.  Conversion guidelines are nearing completion, training programmes are being developed and technology making EV conversions cost effective will soon be available.

A newly formed association – The Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEV) – is working with central and local governments, electric vehicle innovators, the motor trade, fleet operators, energy companies and the media to grow interest in, and demand for, electric vehicles. APEV NZ is a partner of APEV Japan which, since its formation 1 year ago, has recruited 300 members.

APEV believes that in the 21st Century, preserving our environment is a global priority. Immediate action is needed for future generations to continue living a healthy life in a rich, natural environment.

In NZ, transport is our largest energy consuming sector. In the past 12 months our nation spent almost $8 billion on imported fossil fuels. APEV’s mission is to accomplish the largest percentage reduction in transport fossil fuel use of any OECD country by 2025, through the electrification of our fleet.
